The Long Ride Home

Dave & Charity @ the Lodge this morning.

On our adventure back home today. Dave decided he wanted to stop and visit some other state parks on the way home to see if they would be places we would considering returning for a visit. I think I lost track after the 5th one!! Seriously, the Land between the Lakes, Lake Barkley, and we even visited the Paris Landing Tennessee State Park. It was quite a drive. There were times, I think even Dave was wondering if we were going to make it home we were so deep in the woods!!

Our first stop was at the Kentucky Dam State Park, because they were supposed to have horse back riding. Charity had been looking forward to this all week. But due to the rain, they were closed. She almost burst in tears. But we promised we do something else fun. I think after the 6 hour in the car, she lost all hope of that happening!!

But all of sudden . . . she was in luck. Well, at least we tried to convince her of that. We paid five dollars to drive in this bison range, just like Oregon Trail. At first we didn't see anything, but as we keep driving we found them. Here they are . . . like Charity, don't get too excited!!

Well, it wasn't going to be the most exciting ride home for her. But we hoped our stop at Patti's 1880 Settlement would at least cheer up and maybe she'd take a nap for the remainder of the ride home.

We did all enjoy Patti's. It was so delicious!! I loved it. Dave got the famous 2-inch pork chop. Unbelievably yummy. I had a beautiful Aloha Chicken Salad, almost too pretty to eat. And I even finished my Boatsinker Pie, with a little help from Dave and Charity. Yumm! Everything I expected. And I love the little flower pot bread with Strawberry butter. It's definitely worth going, if even just a day trip.

Found this picture on the camera. Charity wanted to take a picture of her "Croc". We got this little trinket for her at the gift shop hoping it would make for a quieter ride home. No such luck. 4 year-old in the car for more than a couple hours, not a good combination.

We finally made it home about 8:30 pm this evening! Needless to say, it must have been a real relaxing vacation, because I came home unpacked everything and even started the laundry. I never do that, never ever!! But it felt good!! I told Dave, I guess we need to go on more "Red-Neck" Vacations!!
