Just Call Me "Unimom"

I don't know how shes does it, did it, or will continue to do it, but that Octomom is something else! Ann Curry conducted an interview with Nadya Suleman this morning on The Today Show. Oh.my.word. The whole ordeal stressed me out completely . . . and I was just viewing it through a television screen! Kids running every which way, getting into things, almost getting hurt, nearly knocking sets over, etc. . . Can't fathom the mayhem actually taking place live in Studio 1A. Ann, as usual, handled it all so very well. The Octomom, well, I'm still not sure she's right in the head.

She did look pretty well put together. Those cameras can do some cool things.

I don't think having many, many children is a bad thing, necessarily. The Duggars, for instance, seem to pull it off pretty well. But it surely not for everyone and a single mom, who is unable to provide for them, that got herself willingly into this situation . . . Ummm, yeah. I'll refrain from my spiel on only having children you can afford. *zip the lip
And, another thing, why are we calling her Octomom when she has 14 children?!?! 14!! Shouldn't she be the quattuordecmom? Oh people. They sure do make this world a very interesting place.

So, if you want to catch the craziness for yourself . . . here it is. Enjoy. Or scream. Pull your hair out. Take a deep breath.

Well, here's the link: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/ as the embed code is not posting correctly.

I'll gladly keep my title, Unimom! Love my one!

Good Bye, Gov. Palin

Robert DeBerry/The Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, via Associated Press

I don't really care what the media says, I still think she's amazing. And it is with sadness I watch her leave the political scene, she's fought though over the last year. I pray this change brings much peace and rest to her and her family.

The Who? Brothers

Apparently I'm a little archaic or behind the times, because when this morning Today Show was reporting the largest crowd ever in their history, I realized I didn't know one song from the performing Summer Concert Series featured artist: The Jonas Brothers. Felt a little out of loop. Am I getting old? Is this what being 30 does to you?

I am, however, rather familiar with The Clark Brothers. Does that count for anything? :) We actually attend the same church when they aren't recording or winning some great award like they did on "The Next Great American Band" last year. Pretty neat! I can probably even sing along with some of their songs. Maybe they should be on The Today Show?!?!
Here's some shots from of myself and friends, Valarie, Brittany and Brian, taken Downtown last year when they played at CMA Fest.

Hopefully I'm not a complete music moron!! :)

Thursday's {Random} Thoughts

Ok, so I don't feel so bad about my poor 'ole neglected blog. Heard on the radio this morning, that 95% of blogs have been abandoned, meaning no new posts in over 120 days. Whoa! I'm not that bad. Yay! We'll see if I can keep The Cook Book in that small 5% that are still out there . . . even if it is 100 days between entries! :)

In other, completely unrelated news, as we were watching the evening news one of the reports mentioned some changes in the metro school structure. Essentially they'll be some cutbacks, various positions including teachers and such, as well as security personnel. They said to compensate for having less security officers, teachers would be asked to help out in this area. Oh my! And these schools aren't really know for how safe they are.

What impressed me with the whole incident, was Dave's reaction to the broadcast. "She'll [Charity] never go to that school system." Wow! I was impressed. Does anybody remember last years blog postings about this time, when we were wondering what we were going to do about Charity's schooling? I really felt Dave was just agreeing to send her to Christian school, because it was so important to me. I'm so happy we're both on the same page now. It stinks to have to be up at 5:30 Monday through Friday, spend over 1 hour in the car and work 40 hours a week. But I'm so glad I'm able to fund Charity's education. God's good!!

From: Barbara & Jenna To: Sasha & Malia

If you didn't catch this today, it is very touching. From two girls who have been through things most of us can't even imagine to two girls who are completely innocent to what they're in for. This made me cry both this morning and tonight when I saw it. This also honors President Bush for his 8 years of service to our country. Truly he is a blessed man, no matter what this country says about him.

America . . . No Matter What, We're still the Greatest Nation

Yesterday was truly an incredible day in our nation's history. Whether you voted for Obama or not, (and personally I'm still sulking that Palin wasn't on that inauguration stage) there was something special there that you could sense even viewing it on TV. To hear that there was no arrests with some near 2 million people in that area is commendable. Seeing senior African Americans wheeled in their wheelchairs, really made you aware of how remarkable this moment was for them. We, in this day and are, are so unfamiliar with what they have been through, but knowing not long ago blacks and whites didn't mingle, it awakes you to what they may be feeling. Wow! I can't imagine. And our children will know no other way, which is nice.

There are some major issues I completely disagree with that this president supports. We as Christians must know God is completely in control and this is the plan He has for our Nation. Our role is to up lift President Obama in pray. And God who has kept and favored our Nation, by our prayers and supplications, can turn things around as only He is able, not any single man.

As nice as I thought the media portrayed yesterday events, and of course they wouldn't have it any other way . . . I must admit watching Opera today was just a bit much. So I again try to remember why they are so happy. . . okay. Didn't watch too much, but did catch this song that was just released, and while it probably has some deeper meaning I'm not catching, like removing God or something, I think it's a beautiful song and performed with such spirit. Think of it as "This Land is Your Land" . . . :)

Bellevue Macy's Closing

Man! This is the most depressing news of the year. At least Allison called and softened the blow before I heard it on this evening news. Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! :'(

Here's the link with the details:

It just got a little easier to unemployed . . . one less place to be tempted to spend money I don't have!

Gotta' laugh!

I'm laughing about what Jay Leno said concerning Starbuck's recent profit loss of 97%: "Who would've thought people out of work wouldn't pay 5 bucks for a coffee?!?! . . . No, interesting, Analysts think what happened was that somehow people apparently figured out they could make coffee at home for free."

Ha! I can relate . . . unfortunately. But at least it gave me a chuckle!!

I'm afraid here's all I'll be having at Starbucks for the time being!

The New President

We made it. We stayed up (most of the night) and watched all the footage. Yeah, the results weren't what we wanted to see. (Hey! Tennessee at least knows how to vote and we're still a red state!!) But this is our country and Obama is now our leader. Our obligations as followers of Christ is to pray for him and our country.

Here's what the Bible says:

Romans 13
1. Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
2. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

I appreciate Mike Huckabee's blog today, We Will Be Back in Strength. Since he was my number one choice for president, when he "talks" I listen.

Now I've got the perfect 2012 ticket: Huckabee/Palin!! He-he!

2008 Election Party!!

We like to party 'round here. So we threw a little election party! It's fun no matter who wins!

Gramma enjoys her chili and corn bread and proudly wears her "I Voted" sticker!

Okay . . . I must explain: A blue Democratic donkey and a red Republican Elephant. I know, they're pathetic! . . . By the way, I'm not a cake decorator!!! :-P

A close-up. Good thing I told you what they're supposed to be . . . because you never would have guess. Maybe I should submit them to Cake Wrecks!!

They may be scary, but they sure are yummy!
We ate the Democrate cake in hopes to eat our Republican one tomorrow in celebration!! Well, we can hope!!

Just Do It!

It's your choice, so get out and make it!

25 Years and we're all still kids!!

Housed in the back of the bonus room closet in a Rubbermaid® tote you will find Corinne Winnie, Bronwen Heartha and Lori Ann.

Now settle, no need to report me to child services! They aren't real people (though there was a day you couldn't have convinced me of that!). They are my Cabbage Patch Kids®, and yes, I still have them! I loved them!! Who didn't like Cabbage Patches®? Those cute little cheeks on the front and the back and their signature tattoo.

Corinne was an original. She is well worn, her eyes are even gone. I think I spilled something on her face and they came off, so I had to draw new ones on! Bronwen is my Cornsilk addition. She has shiny, thick, brown hair and a really pretty taffeta dress. She's my favorite and is in much better condition, since I received her at an older age. And Lori Ann, she's my little brown baby, with Crimp 'n Curl® hair. I was way too old for dolls when I got her . . . but you see I've never outgrown them.

I'm lead to believe there are others out there in the same boat. Because I should hope someone's not paying over $3000 for Election Exclusive: One-of-a-Kind Cabbage Patch Kids® Sarah Palin to give it to their 3 year-old for Christmas. Oh dear!
Right now, the current bid is $3,100.
John McCain and Barack Obama are tied at $1,025.
And nobody's too thrilled about Joe Biden, he's only at $610.

Ummmm . . . people . . . do you see who's in the lead? Oh, no media, no one likes Sarah Palin. Um-hummm.

Well, the auction actually ends on, you guessed it, Nov. 4th. So we'll just have to wait and see who comes out on top of this e-BaY action, as well as the race to the presidency.

Introducing Sarah McCain Palin Ciptak

I am a McCain/Palin fan . . . but this is, by far, WAY TOO MUCH!! I'm not sure if Dave tried to pull something like this off, he'd wouldn't be around to see his little Sarah grown up!!

~ Father Secretly Names Baby Sarah McCain Palin ~
By Jon Swaine Last Updated: 2:35PM BST 15 Oct 2008
_____________________________________________

Mark Ciptak, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, submitted the name - which combines those of John McCain and Sarah Palin, the Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates - despite earlier agreeing with his wife, Layla, that their daughter should be called Ava Grace.

He said that after their return from the hospital, he confessed that he had written the name on the baby's birth certificate, but that Mrs. Ciptak thought he was joking.

"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News newspaper. "It's going to take some more convincing."

Mr. Ciptak, who works at a bloodbank for the American Red Cross, said he chose the name in an attempt to "to get the word out" about the Republican campaign.

"I'm totally McCain all the way," he said. "I took one for the cause. I can't give a lot of financial support for the campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little."

However, Mr. Ciptak admitted that he had almost gone even further.

"I was actually going to name the baby John McCain, even as a girl, but I thought that was maybe too overboard," he said.

"I decided to actually name her Sarah McCain Palin, figuring hopefully I would get two weeks in the doghouse rather than two months."

Keeping Falling Stocks From Raising Stress Levels

Well, I tried to get home from the wedding in time to catch our own Beverly McManus on the news, but I guess I was chatting too much! I'm glad I found it online. Didn't want to miss it!! Good job, Bev!! And, of course, good advice . . . go check it out!

McCainiac!!

We've got a little "McCain-iac" on our hands! If you can read her lips she's saying "McCain"! She keeps telling every one she's voting for the one with the white hair! (They have mock elections in her Kindergarten, so we've kinda' been directing her that way!)

And by the look on her face, you would think she was enjoying the debate. However, a little hunch, I think she was enjoying staying up past her bedtime since she doesn't have school this week!!

Wishful Thinking

I'm thinking since the presidential candidates are in my city today that maybe I'll happen to bump into them. What do you think? Ha!

It's one of those dreary, rainy days (which I love!) and Nashville hasn't seen rain in forever. I don't think we'd even leave the house today, but Charity is back to Gymnastics Class now that cheering is over. She's excited to be back! We'll probably run to the bank and the library to return our videos . . . .

I'm thinking I won't see Obama or McCain at any of these places!

Well, we'll be tuned to the TV tonight to catch it all go down!
